We Ask Again: Who Is DFS 10126DFS Whoa, caught me off guard there DFS, I expected you to call me a liar. We Ask Again: Who Is DFS 10127 I've always had a thing for cryptography as well. One of my favorite "personal projects" was a C++ clbutt I wrote that handles compression, encryption and encoding of... Yes, I work for the team that presents historic and reference data to the bank. *I* don't care what you think, I did this as a thought exercise and I am proud of it. I have no idea what you threw at it that took 30 seconds, but the answer to today's puzzle at the above site came back practically instantaneously for me. The thing is the game tree for Sudoku is huge, it simply isn't possible to search the whole thing in any meaningful timeframe (our lifetime timeframe). I could set the maximum to depth to 2 and the maximum time that this took would reduce significantly - but I suspect it would start to miss solutions (actually *the* solution as published puzzles should only have one). I'm not sure whether you mean me writing the solver people actually doing them, but Sudoku is really huge over here. Our London evening paper even produced a supplement simply containing 30-40 puzzles given away free with the paper a couple of weeks ago, which was useful as the planting f***ers had just stuck again and it gave people something to do on the way home. I know, I'm really interested in cryptography. It was a clever cipher (replacement with transposition), plus the neat way of only sending an entire message using 6 letter. in These things are fun to do, even if no one else appreciates them :-)
I know, but I've lost track of the conversation, I seem to remember you claimed I couldn't write anything as good as X.cpp, I said I didn't want to as I have Thunderbird then you started talking about your Access project - maybe I accidentally snipped something, but it's way too late for me to go through the entire thread now. -- C.
