With all due respect, that's a decision you should take for reasons perhaps more solidly founded on your actual needs and wants, rather than on your perception of the bunch in here.

Mailing lists, installation guides: debian-user list is excellent, but very high-traffic - a good threading newsreader is essential for this - don't try it with Microsoft Outlook. The mailing list works pretty much like any newsgroup.

Linux documentation project home page: You should have howtos inusr-share-doc-HOWTO, and you should also

IRC channel #debian on irc.debian.org - this provides an oppportunity to ask one-liner questions and get immediate irc chat responses. When you go on there, don't ask for permission for help, just pose your question, including the information about apps affected and any other relevant information.

Someone mentioned an e-zine (rappy?) a day or two ago which looked good from a newbie perspective.

Never forget the man pages, too, and also it's always worth googling for the home-pages of individual applications or projects, as there's usually a lot more information to be had there, often pointers to irc channels, app-specific newsgroups, mailing lists and so on.

If you really do get a Mac, don't forget to try debian for PPC!
