FUD. The reason the user does NOT switch to Linux is because HE IS NOT OFFERED THE CHOICE! What is difficult to understand about that? How many major retailers (where Joe Public generally buys their computers) have salesmen that say: "here is a machine. You can have either Windows on it, (demonstrates a windows machine) or you can have Linux (demonstrates a Linux machine)"? I'll tell you. NONE ZERO. ZILCH. There is NO CHOICE.

A retailer would make MORE margin on a Linux machine than a Windows one because the cost of the OS is far less! Come on, don't start that FUD. You know very well that the reason they don't is becaude MS put covert pressure on OEMs to NOT offer any choice other than Windows.
