Why do people switch to Linux 13494
Well here's my Linux story. Sorry one thing I can't give is dates: Machine was a PII 233 MHz, 256Mb RAM...

I'm still part way through reading the article but in regards to anti-Microsoft sentiment. Just yesterday Lin¿nut (who is actually one of the less-radical posters here)

"So Microsoft can still be reduced to a niche player (over Bill and Steve's dead bodies, maybe)."

The fact is that Linux advocates are regularly preaching hate towards MS and hoping for the rest of it's executives or comparing Microsoft to Nazi's and the holocaust. Not everyone does this obviously but it is hardly rare or unusual to see these types of posts.

The general public (ie - the mbuttes Linux is trying to attract) continually rates Microsoft as one of most respected companies in the world. The traditional approach of screaming "You're an idiot if you run Windows because Microsoft sucks because they are worse than the nazi's" is hardly going to convince anyone to switch. If anything, it will turn people away from Linux without every giving it a fair evaluation.

Proactive response - Someone is bound to post that "Linux doesn't need mbutt appeal. I use Linux and that's all I care about."

Fine. But without a large user base there is no incentive for companies to support Linux and supply Linux drivers with their hardware. So you can't claim that you don't care about mbutt adoption of Linux and simultaneously complain about lack of driver-software support.

Now back to reading that article....
