The backup tool would NOT need to operate in Windows...in fact it'd be pretty f***ing stupid since how would they even get into Windows if it was f***ed? It would actually be best to use like Knoppix for the backup processes...or if you wanted to take the time to create a bootable WinXP environment, which you could do, but the former would be easier. All in all though most customers are never really too upset about losing their data (most don't really have anything to lose in the first place). I find most customers like to play into the melodrama, which quite frankly gets a lil annoying. A lot of my repair clients come to me with woes about how they've lost all their data and yadda yadda yadda...and it really doesn't matter how much I rebutture them in the likelihood that I'll be able to get it all back (all 6 e-mails from great aunt Mildred), they just like to play the role. The number one thing I've learned with computer repair is never offer more than what the customer really wants. I mean if the customer tells you that they really don't care if they lose all their data, don't waste too much effort trying to locate the problem, in most cases it's simply easier to just reformat and reinstall...especially in cases where they get severely infected with adware and spyware. -- Onideus Mad Hatter mhm Õ x Õ
