Peter Kšhlmann I don't know the technicals, but in the OS-2 groups, no one was impressed. They ran a bunch of benchmarks in...
SIQ? Yeah, I think that was something MS insisted upon, LOL. I think IBM came up with a way to fix it by writing apps a certain way, but it was complex. Anyway, anymore, that's not exactly an SIQ (like it used to be). Sure, OS-2 had flaws!
f*** it man, it's dead. He's dead Jim.
Well poo let's open source it.
I guess we would have to go back to those groups to ask that question. Those OS-2 guys did agree that NT did threads natively and well.
See here tho:
Captain's log. On StarDate Fri, 12 Nov 2004 18:32:11 GMT received comm from
"It's a guess (but not a wild one) that i probably would thread much better if you wrote it as a .NET application under NT (it has very good multi threading libs and runs extremely smoothly on NT-2K-XP-2003 -- don't know about 98-ME)."
Suggests that .NET has the best Win threading model so far.
I think in some ways Windows threads are better
Well that is lame!
No there were big discussions about BeOS too. Agreement was BeOS multi tasked and mulbreasthreaded about as well as OS-2. Verdict: tie. Be did multimedia much better tho.
There has never been as good a threaded platform as BeOS. Your friends that think OS-2 threads
Most of them used BeOS. They really liked it. As I said, verdict was tie, but Be would do say a sound file, or say, 6 videos all at once better. :)
Yeah I read an interview with some guy who wrote that f***ing Be kernel and it was really interesting. That thing hardly waits at all, it's down to the 1-1000th of a second on stuff. Not that I understand that, but there's ur MM performance. And supposedly that is like 1000 times faster than NT. -- Nigerian "romance scam": Nigerian crooks using dating sites, Yahoo chat rooms and Yahoo messenger to con people.
