Windows and Dell Computers

Well, knock me socks off.

We tried a new Dell Computer, and Windows had a problem with a dll. I forget the name of it.

We thought, we can just re-install windows.

So, we looked for the Windows CD, to re-install, and freaking a, Dell does not provide a CD. There is a note that you don't need one. The OS is on the Hard Drive. You can click on the icon on the desktop, to fix any problems. Well, freaking a, we could not get to the desktop.

So, we had a legal copy of Windows XP Pro, we purchased seperately, that had been used on another machine, but was not reinstalled when the

hard disk blew. We installed it. We went to register. Damn. I had to call and get a new 30 key license number.

Chinese no OS ban may open way for Linux

We got registered, and, there is more problems. We don't have freaking

drivers for: ethernet card, video, adaptor, and usb ports. And since we don't have ethernet, we can't download.

I guess dell will have support do any fixes.

I dumped Windows off the machine. PCLinuxOS installed fine. Video even worked. Even java was installed.

It seems, after you do linux a while, you come to appreciate it more. Or maybe that is after you do windows more.
