Windows for Linux Wannabe's 3348BearItAll on Tuesday 07 March 2006 15:07 I have seen another virtual desktop-pager combo-application for Win32. Live demonstration by a colleague was even worse than the above i.e. more unappealing; rather appalling and deterring. It was merely a little icon in the taskbar andnothing on par with the docked pager in KDE and GNOME, among others (KDE is more flexible than GNOME in that respect). The positive thing about such enhancements is that they help the conserva- tive Windows user realise what is missed 'out of the box', whereas GNU-Linux gives it all bundled, as well as enabled by default. Try to tell an average Windows user about XGL and its ability to revolve virtual desk- top. See the reply you get... Frankly, I am surprised to see translucency in Windows versions that pre- plorer, Windows is over a decade behind UNIX and derivatives. It gives grey artefacts, which I believe IE7 has fixed. Firefox and Opera could handle it just fine. It is ironic that third-party software is giving Mi- crosoft a lesson on their own turf.
