T.G. Reaper Actually there is where you are wrong. I remember, I took a Windows programming clbutt for Windows 3.0. One of the example programs was "OK Button." It was...

We had an infestation of the last major worm at work (I lose track of the names with so many of them in the wild). On a rollaround computer that never even accesses the internet, one scanner found 199 copies. It's scanned on the network. All incoming and outgoing traffic is scanned. The only non-admin user that can log onto it can't access the internet at all. The only admin-user thatcanaccess the internet that ever logs onto it is me, and I never access the internet.

Curiously, the premiere scanner we were supposed to use to clean everything up never found a single problem, but the one that's been on the machines for over a year* found 3 machines infected.

And whatever they were using to scan remotely was buggy because they claimed 5 machines were still unpatched (I tried patching them all again and failed because they were patched) and still infected. They finally went quiet and stopped claiming that to still be true. But another person who was doing the talking to them said they'd get back to me because they thought there might be some false indications.

Don't you just love Winders? I know I love it. About as much as I'd expect to love stomach cancer.

* And an even bigger curiosity is that the people that put this old scanner on there claim they didn't. I tried to tell them it wasn't there, they came and did some network voodoo on each machine, installed some new some and so forth, and it was there when they left. But they're having none of it.

BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 On 6 Nov 2005 01:02:18 -0800, IIRC, the honeypot tests I have seen, were for server systems, in that they didn't have a user poking buttons...

-- "In short: just say NO TO DRUGS, and maybe you won't end up like the Windows people."
