Working with Linux on a PC 1616
I know as I have been recently posting my experiences with Linux I have run into two general types of people: The first may or may not agree with all of my views, but appreciates my relatively fair look at some of the different LiveCD's. I have learned a great deal from these folks and am grateful - and I believe I have opened some eyes when I have pointed to things I think of as weaknesses in the distros of Linux I have used. OS X (and its common applications) have an amazingly robust UI that sets a high standard in my mind when I look elsewhere. The second group simply does not seem to understand how anyone could care about or want a better UI. They do not seem to understand why I would have any complaints and take my comments personally, as though I am holding them responsible for my concerns with Linux, simply because they advocate it. They have sunk to pretending I made claims very different than I did - perhaps to justify a choice of OS that they have made but are not comfortable with. I believe many of us who post to CSMA COLA should get at least moderate experience with all three OS's: XP, OS X, and Linux - Linux being the hardest to get a feel for being that it has so much customization. In doing so we learn our preferred OS better and we can make more reasoned and thought out comments. -- "If you have integrity, nothing else matters." - Alan Simpson
