Seems to vary, slrn, and other text stuff, within a GNOME terminal, don't quite work that way. Since you can't "pick up" a link like you can in the GUI apps, but you can rt click, and select "copy link address" then rt click on the desktop, select Create launcher, and paste the URL. It would be nice if you could select Create URL link, and have it handle the info itself, as it does with dragging a link from Firefox et al.

For GUI GNOME apps, it works fine, grab the link, and drag it to the desktop, OO doesn't do the GNOME thing, so it's a cut and paste. Hard to "pick up" something when the mouse is used to select and highlight. Have to have some modifier, or use a rt click. Perhaps allowing paste, on the desktop would do it, but that might have other pitfalls.

Google usually works too :)

Seems that *if* one were to use only "approved" or "standard" apps for a specific window manager that you could could come close to the consistency that one finds regularly on OS...
