XP never crashes on my machine 16886
I use XP-Pro as a development machine. IMO a 'development machine' tends to stress the OS more than a casual user running Word-Excel on it. I'm constantly debugging, crashing apps, killing apps through the debugger, etc. My XP machine has really been rock solid. I go weeks at a time without reboots. Which brings me to the next issue. I'd say that 99% of my restarts are because of "Windows Update" security updates. The claims of WinXP crashing all day simply are not true. The problem with Windows isn't stability. It's security. It is getting a bit comical to install the latest updates every 1-2 weeks and all the patches sound identical. "This update fixes a flaw that allows an attacker to take control of your system." At home I'm much more protected because my wife and kids all have regular "User" accounts. My PDC automatically keeps their system current with patches and in the unlikely case they get a virus, it won't be able to do much running under a lowly "User" account. XP never crashes on my machine 16887 snips Jim submitted this idea : Doesn't everybody create 4+Gb word processor documents? I mean, that's only 858,993,459 words, buttuming an average of 5 letters each. Or, well, the first and... Bottom line... Windows is stable but security is a "work in progress" if you know what I mean.
