Those drivers are present on: PCLinuxOS. Ubuntu Suse 10.1 Fedora Mandriva.... It is very common for the same supported hardware to be included on the major Linux distributions because they all use bits and pieces from each other. For example, PCLinuxOS uses stuff from Mandriva. linux pro audio" an oxymoron 5783 On Wed, 07 Jun 2006 09:46:24 -0700, Gunnar The original post didn't make my server... Now if you are looking at a super lean distribution like DSL, then things will be different of course. Bottom line is Linux supports a lot of things right from the install CD that Windows needs extra CDs for. Still, what's the big deal? The drivers come with the hardware and-or are on websites. If Linux doesn't support on the CD a piece of hardware you are screwed because chances are good the manufacturers website has little or no information on Linux drivers.
For some hardware, including what you have mentioned this is unfortunately true and IF a particular driver is NOT on a Linux or Windows CD, it is more than likely included on a CD that shipped with the hardware, for Windows of course. Finding it for Linux is a totally different kettle of fish.
This is the crux of the discussion. There is simply not a piece of hardware shipped today that does not include a driver for Windows, buttuming it is designed for Windows-Intel-Amd of course. One thing that the Linux advocates love to harp on is DVDCSS and playing DVD movies. Sure it's not included with Windows XP, BUT that little CD included with your DVD player includes all you need to make it work. That CD is useless for Linux however. So 5 seconds of clicking next vs who knows what..... -- flatfish+++ "Why do they call it a flatfish?"
