Not feeling terribly guilty. Not sure who he was referring to but I've made similar claims to whoever this was so it might have been me.

I should have pointed out that my keeping current doesn't include that "malicious software removal tool" the "Windows firewall" or any other AV crap. Just the security updates + service packs.

Technically my router-firewall it *IS* a Linux box. I'm actually surprised how many people have a single PC that they plug directly into their cable modem. The reason certainly isn't price because I've seen these on sale for under $10.

I never viewed it as reduced functionality. If there are any Active-X controls that I *need* (and believe me... there are not many Active-X controls that anyone NEEDS) I start an instance of the browser as Admin, install the SAFE control, once installed it then becomes available for all users. So far the only few controls I've allowed are things like Flash Player.

Exactly what I mean. Shame on MS for not at least attempting to steer people into the practice of different accounts with different permissions.

It took some knowledge and time to setup. I'm not sure that I'd call clicking and typing "hard work." Working in a coal mine is hard work.

I don't know enough about Macs to answer this.

It was made possible by a combination of things. One of which was a router-firewall that happens to run Linux. But this alone wouldn't be very useful if my kids could click on crap and install the various "free" toolbars and other garbage that's out there.

Dell Snub Linux, Then Fade Away Rex is on a roll once again
REX, DO YOU MAKE THIS STUFF UP AS YOU GO ALONG? *********** Are you kidding? I can't turn on the TV without seeing an advertisement for a Dell machine. I can't remember the last time...

I don't know their co$t. But it must make business sense for them since it's what they continue to use.
