snips I rather doubt it. I'm not sure the details of *their* approach, but the more local approach is simply garbage. It has nothing to do with protecting...

I'm often surprised how the media decides to focus on one story so much and ignore many others. Take the Natalee Holloway case for example, the girl who disapeered in Aruba. Dozens of children go missing every week. So why all the national focus on her and absolutely zero mention of the others?

of our troops who died in Iraq are soldiers fighting in a war-conflict so it isn't unexpected to have casualties. Unfortunately we are so desensitized to this that even when 4-6 soldiers die on any given day it is hardly "news worthy" anymore.

Unlike the soldiers, the victims in the London planting were women, children and people simply minding their own business. It's the "it could happen to anyone" aspect that serves as a chilling reminder that the persons still hate us.

Far worse events happen regularly and they don't get nearly this type of coverage. I've read news where a bus goes off a cliff killing dozens in Brazil, trains derailing and killing dozens in India and hundreds get end in Africa every day. For some reason the media decides that these lives aren't as important and they don't have full coverage.

The reason is unclear. I've heard that the US media treats the rest of a few "white english speaking people" as being more significant than the rest of hundreds of black African tribesman or Asian natives. Theory is that "they look and live more like us." The better part of me wishes this wasn't the case but the emperical evidence suggests otherwise.

Do you have any theories of your own on this?
