it isn't a holy grail, but it is darn nice!

really? 3 days? how did you go about searching for answers? what forums did you visit? did you google for "suse install tutorial?" do point us all in the direction of the tutorial you followed to install suse, okay?

same questions for fc5 as for suse... what information did you use as a resource?

linux is an OS, not artificial intelligence. you give it too much credit. i have instructions how to dual boot without even messing with your windows boot file... but you are complaining after the fact instead of asking for direction before the fact. is this how you run the rest of your life? i'd recommend that you learn to PLAN out your work before getting involved in something that isn't trivial so that the odds of success go waaaaaay up. i would've failed miserably installing linux, too, if my approach was similar to your approach.

you are trying to dual boot and you aren't capable of using google? imho, this is likely a troll giveaway, right here. are you married to mr FUD?

i could've told you that. exactly who recommended gentoo to you? perhaps you could post a link.

when you set out about a construction project and hammer your thumb, do you then move on to hammer your pointer finger... and your middle finger... you get the picture.

linux newbs who revel in their linux ignorance will NEVER be successful with linux... and that was your objective, right?

i don't think a computer newb can dual boot in ignorance, no. but an average user can be very successful once linux is installed. in fact, an average user with the ability to PLAN can also install linux, too. i learned. in fact, i learned how to dual boot w-o even messing with the bootloader or whatever that file is called that windows uses to boot. it is a 3 letter acronym that starts with b and i should know it.

why? b-c messing with that increases the risk - and i'm risk averse.

not required. interest to gain knowledge is. you don't have it, hence your post.

of course it does to you... you can't PLAN.
