A few more newbie questionsI tried using "make menuconfig" and got the following: storage:-usr-src-kernel-source-2.4.27# make menuconfig rm -f include-asm ( cd include ; ln -sf asm-i386 asm) make -C scripts-lxdialog all make1: Entering directory `-usr-src-kernel-source-2.4.27-scripts-lxdialog'usr-bin-ld: cannot find -lncurses collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make1: *** ncurses Error 1 make1: Leaving directory `-usr-src-kernel-source-2.4.27-scripts-lxdialog' make: *** menuconfig Error 2 What am I doing wrong? I used "find grep ncurses less" and got, among an amazing array of other hits,usr-lib-libncursesw.so.5.4usr-lib-libncursesw.so.5lib-libncurses.so.5.4lib-libncurses.so.5 (whenever I try anything like "find foo" or "find ?foo?" or any other method of supplying what I'm looking for I get what looks like a listing of every file on the machine) ------------------------------------------------------------ The reason I was dinking around with regenerating the kernel is that I'm convinced that I told the dialogue that I didn't want any Appletalk stuff the last time I built the kernel, but I keep getting messages about Appletalk things at startup. ------------------------------------------------------------ I'm running on an internal network behind a NAT-DHCP router and I don't want to get involved with a DNS server right now. What's the procedure for buttigning a static IP address that I can stick in the various hosts files? (If anyone has a link to how to set up a DNS server in this environment, I'd appreciate it.
