A ipw3945 module for Gentoo 2006.1Ross Maloney I really can't understand how you can run a system without kernel sources. I need the sources for madwifi, my wireless network driver and for my ATI graphics driver and NVIDIA driver on another machine. If there was a GRP package for your driver, pre-built against the LiveCD kernel source then you could have just installed and used that. Otherwise you need the kernel source installed. Is this the bit you read about? 3.f. Kernel Sources Using the LiveCD kernel You must use the kernel present on the LiveCD for the GRP-networkless install. This is merely a gentoo-sources kernel compiled by genkernel, Gentoo's automated kernel compilation utility and will give you a kernel that automatically detects and configures your hardware upon boot. help in doing some changes in my system Hi everybody :) I'm running Debian Sid here, and latest upgrades are requiring some changes in my system: running 2.6.14 now), and for some reason, udev also demands tmpfs. And looks like... ==================================== It's understandable how you ran into problems. I've always used the minimal CD install where you install a basic barebones group of packages then configure and build your system. One of the last packages you install is your kernel source, then configure and build it... install it and restart your system. Closed source drivers such as madwifi, ATI or NVIDIA need to build against your current kernel source. I agree there's a problem here, although it is easy to solve. -- Regards, Please help Linux newbie.
