A newbie's question about toolsNow that I have my file server running (well, it boots and stays up until I shut it down), I'd like to find tools equivalent to the ones I use under zVM. Note that I didn't load X so graphical windows-ish goodies don't apply; in this context "full screen" means "a screen full of text that I can scroll around and possibly type on." The main tool I'd like to have is called FLIST (File LIST) - something that displays file names with a command area next to each. In the zVM world I'd call up a listing of the files in a certain area and be able to type a command to be applied. If the file was "FRED buttEMBLE Z" (for an example) I could type "X" in the command area to invoke the XEDIT editor, "R = OLDASM =" to rename it, "A" to buttemble it, "ERASE" to delete it, etc. Another tool that I'd like to use is BROWSE, a file display utility that's much "lighter weight" than any editor. The last tool is a *simple* text-type editor (no, not vi, thankyouverymuch); even something as simple and no-frills as Notepad would work. Something called T or TEDIT or TINYEDIT was kicking around the IBM BBS for years (including the source IIRC; everything was removed when IBM sold the PC division to Lenovo, damn IBM's corporate soul). The Debian site mentions many editor packages but are there any recommendations?
