It's the abuse of technology that's the problem. And we can get by just fine without computer-controlled homes. We have more than enough 'creature comforts'. In fact, people are dying like flies from being overweight and lacking muscle tone. And-or going broke paying medical bills that result from same. The idea that any new technology is good and desirable is one that is promoted by bankers and merchants and labor unions and brokers and their bought-and-paid-for scientists. The Earth's ecosystem cannot withstand ever-increasing wholesale industrial abuse forever. Some technologies are just indulgences. They should be left on the drawing board. I don't have to have one now. But if the merchants and bankers and workers have their way, we might. You basically can't get a car that isn't run by computers anymore. Overall, they aren't any better than cars without computers: The advantages are balanced out by the disadvantages. But they are far more complex, and thus a lot of needless mining and manufacturing is done to create and maintain them. Dig behind a story about how technology is going to make your life better, and you find greedy merchants and investors calling the shots and paying the scientists who lend authenticity to what are just advertisements.
