Anybody using a "real" Linux domain 3740Alan Connor Raid5 Recovery Question Melinda Taylor Sorry to read about this situation. This is the kind of setup, that it would be said "It would be better starting from somewhere else". As I... It is. It is also the reality. MS is in all their right -- and we all know how MS uses and abuses any legal rights, that they're moral-ethical or not -- to put whatever conditions they want to what they sell. As consumers, we're in all our right to refuse to buy it (or in any case, to refuse to buy OEM licenses and but full-retail licenses -- more expensive, but transferable) They *can* (more specifically, they *could*) They have to right to sell you the refrigerator under whatever conditions they want -- as long as they do not force you to buy it and as long as the conditions do not break existing law (as an obvious example, they can not sell you a refrigerator under the condition that you kill someone). Sure, if they do that, you would simply go to some other store and get a better deal. If Sears knew that you don't have any other choice (and provided that they were as evil sons of unpleasant womanes as MS are, then *of course* they would put the requirement that the refrigerator can only be used by you at a particular address, and that when you move, the refrigerator must be discontinued. Surprisingly enough, it's simply called a contract. They can not force you to sign the contract (i.e., they can not force you to buy the refrigerator), but they have the right to impose any restrictions they like -- if you accept and you sign the contract, then you're bound by whatever terms the contract that you signed include. Of an appropriate... I can create some software, and sell it to you under the condition that you must throw away all your cars. You're in all your right to not buy my software. But if you accept my conditions, then you accepted my conditions and I would have the legal right to force you to throw away your cars. And since the software is mine, *I* am the one that sets the conditions -- what you think is only relevant in your decision to buy my software or not. Anybody using a "real" Linux domain 3741 What you say is likely to be true in many places. Unfortunately, the cost of getting a judge's... Of course, given that MS holds a de-facto monopoly of something that in the present time should be considered *essential*, then the law should prevent them from commiting such abuse. But then, who are we kidding? Would we expect the corrupt lawmakers-governments to side against the big billionaire bullies? That's what I call a smart, sound decision! :-) Carlos --
