Any recent Distribution automatically installs the HAL subsystem and an automounter like ivman. After all I have less configuration trouble with Linux than with Windows. Heck I don't have to install drivers after installing new hardware. Just Plug it in and it works. Under Windows you have usually to dismis a few Driver Installation Wizards. And try out the following: Install Windows on machine A, configure it, then take the harddisk out of machine A and plug it into machine B having a whole different set of hardware. Windows will even refuse to boot. Linux: No Problem, IT JUST WORKS. BTW: I just double checked it: After plugging in a USB Mouse in a Windows XP machine it took about 5 seconds until it the cursor followed my movements. Linux: Plug and Play, No Delay! USB Scanner under Windows: What a headache, and then thoose bad designed scanner software GUIs. Linux: Plug and Play, No Delay. Maybe you should also know that Linux' sound architecture ALSA is becoming the new widely industry standard. Google for IOSONO for a great new movie theater sound system, that is making large use of the ALSA modular architecture. Huh? Linux has decent filesystems that don't get cluttered up with time and need such voodo maintance called "defragmenting", an excellent, self adjusting TCP-IP stack, provides some of the best desktop environments you can find (KDE, GNOME, WindowMaker, FluxBox, which do you prefer). Less bugs, better security, more comfort. Yes really: I mainly use Linux because it's way more comfortable. Only maybe MacOS X is beyond that. OTOH everytime I'm forced to use windows I just want to wipe the harddisk and trash it. Windows it a real pain in the butt, anything else than windows is better.
