Automutating fstab plugging USB device 4498

Sigh. I'm sorry... I usually aim to be polite when I post, but I'm going to depart from that policy here. Patronising, unhelpful replies like this one burn me up.

Did you read what I said? I *did* change fstab to suit, but the moment I unplug the drive that entry gets deleted, and when next plugged I'm back to where I was. I didn't include it because it is not relevant to the point. What *is* relevant is what mechanism is changing it under me. Oh for god's sake...! (And I told you what it is -- RedHat 7.)

Well if you have no idea of the answer, why did you bother to reply? I'm hoping-buttuming that *someone* reading this has seen similar actions in a bog-standard RedHat setup like mine and can point me in the right direction.

And what do you think I meant by "not being able to find it". I have grepped everything in sight with every appropriate string I could think of, and nothing relevant shows up. *And* scoured my documentation for any possible answer. That's why I asked for help! And btw, I have been working with and programming variants of unix for the last quarter-century or so. I *am* familiar with the basics.

If someone can be more helpful that this idiot, I would be grateful (and would respond politely... (:-))
