How do I get red text on a black background in tcsh On Mon, 12 Sep 2005 19:26:57 -0000, Grant Edwards staggered into the Black Sun and said: The... Do you know if the lightning came in on the power line or the phone line? If it came in the phone line you should call your phone company and have them come out and check the lightning arrestor on the line. Phone lines have real lightning arrestors in the terminal box on the side of your house. I say real to distinguish them from the surge protectors that are included in power strips. The telephone lightning arrestors are grounded via a heavy rod that's driven into the earth as opposed to the ground line on your wall plug that's connected to ground via a hundred feet of thin wire. Those lightning arrestors are there for a reason, without them you could be end if lightning strikes your line while you are using a wired phone. Several years ago I went through a couple of incompetent DSL providers before finding a provider who knew what they were doing. The tech for one of them was in the habit of disconnecting the lightning arrestors when he did DSL installations, fortunately there was still a problem with the line and the Verizon guy reconnected the lightning arrestor when he did his service call, the DSL guy tried to disconnect it again when he came back but that time I was watching him and stopped him from doing it.
