Backup Configurations

Friends,

For the past several years I have been a *nix system administrator and have (like everyone else ) had to setup and configure backups. During the process I've always had to match computer hardware, scsi adapters, tape drives, drivers and backup software. Very time consuming when everything needs to get done Yesterday.

Recently I've been working with a client that was using a vendors tape drive that I wasn't familiar with and had to spend WAY to much time doing manual configuration including being on hold with the vendor's techs that had never heard of dd-dump-restore . In any case I just got tired of dealing wthe vendor and decided to Do Something(TM) . So, I wanted to know if anyone would be willing to contribute their successful Linux-Unix backup combinations to a website I've posted online. www.backuppost.com

Successful combinations are tuples like the following: - Hardware Vendor: Dell - Hardware Model: Poweredge 1750 - OS: Fedora Core 5 - Tape Machine Vendor: Dell Powervault 120T - OS driver: aic7love - Backup software: Amanda-dd-dump-restore

Of particular use would be listings-combinations that show how well different vendor tape drives and drivers work under Linux (and all its variants), *BSD, Windows and MacOSX . In any case , if you've got a successful backup combination to post please visit

Any feedback welcome! Thanks Tony
