The license file (plaintext, except for the hashes) says "Licenced to: xyz, college abc, etc."

Moe Trin Yup, this is one of the first changes I plan to do, once I finish reinstalling...

For example I might want to keep my source code in a directory outside a user's home directory that is open for remote logins. Or my research logs. (so someone would need both the user account-pbutt + root account-pbutt to read it)

So going by the principle of "exclude everything and fix what doesn't work", that would mean denying read access to everything outside a given user's home directory.
