There is none. There are a number of good distributions, tailored to different niches, an we'd need to know a good deal about what you're doing to guess which is best for you, buttuming that there aren't multiple distributions equally suited to your specific requirements.

I've had fair luck with SuSE, but you might be happier with something smaller. Chances are that any of the major distributions will work well for you.

Distribution watch can give you a long list. My advice is to pick one or more, install, evaluate and try other distributions as time allows. The basics won't change from one distribution to another. Some common ones are Mandrake, Red Hat1 and SuSE. Some distributions are available as "live CD" (bootable demo disks) and you can easily try them out without actually installing them; I generally prefer to install so that I can run at the speed of my hard drive.

One piece of advice is to put some thought into disk parbreastioning. I'd advise you to put everything possible into logical drives, to have a separate file system forhome and to put some thought into whether to have separateboot, tmp andvar file systems.

1 Sometimes known as "dead rat". The current version is known as Fedora and abbreviated FC plus a number.
