Believe it or not, some people have a life beyond doing "monster amounts of reading" in order to become expert in a new operating system. That's why someone developed "Lindows", and why MS shot it down. The questioner was really asking "what distribution would be most like what I am used to", which is a legitimate question; it deserves a legitimate answer, and some people have treated it as such. Community support is one function of NGs, and many NGs (relating to some OSes) have very expert people who understand that, and who do their best to help the uninitiated. Not every personality is suited to that. It's possible to ignore questions one is unprepared to deal with. If it's time wasting that annoys you, I daresay that you are in for a lot of it, if you intend to make this point so hostilely to every newbie who asks the question. I (and I'm a newbie, by the way) don't think much of the question either, because it is a lot like asking how high is up. On the other hand, some kind people felt like answering it in a more friendly way, rather than blowing off the questioner in a contemptuous manner.
