Well - of course everybody knows the first one wo made a dicription of packet-length was Urgh. He used to throw flat stones over the nearby wather an so invented the relation between packet-length (the jump length of the stone) an the speed of travel. He concluded that a long packet-length has a faster travel-time than a short packet-length. While he was researching this, he hit Gnorf on the other side of the water and thus invented the interactive way of letting stones travel (that was before he found out the handshake-method worked better).

Now he knew there was a great idea in this rock, but did not had the technology to extract the bare component out of it, so he started the bronze-age by trying to heat the rock nearby a copper-ore deposit. He stared at it as he was stroked by lightning and some vauge ideas bubbled up in his mind (something with copper, rock and lightning). He pbutted his ideas to his sons and they (mankind i mean) never could let it go. The rest of the history is known. Finaly man did extract the bare component and called it Silicon. The ideas of the traveling rock became more clear when they started to use the silicon component in combination with the copper and the idea of lightning (just as the frist ideas Urgh had). The idea of packet-length and handshake also turned out to be brilliant!

So - we all have to be gratfull Urgh started all this. Altough one of his other ideas - something with very little stones, called Microstones - did not work out that good...
