CD Burning problem

I wonder if anyone can help me here. I am running Red Hat Linux 9. I had a CDRW drive in my PC but upgraded it to a DVD writer (an NEC 4550A drive). Now however I cannot burn CDs in Linux, although I can format and use DVD-RAM disks and I can use CD-RW and DVD-RW disks no problem on the same PC in Windows.

Whenever I try to burn a CD I get the following:-

However the power callibration area is not full as the exact same disk will burn fine in Windows (using the built in recording facilities of Windows XP) without error even after telling me the power callibration area is full in Linux.

I tried upgrading to cdrecord version 2.01 : cdrecord -version gives

That suggests it should be OK for CD writing at least, if not DVD. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I should try?
