Sure - fear of the unknown is a major factor. By the same token (but a different reason) we do not allow any non-company computer on our wires without enormous hoop jumping. But that's more a "we don't want people listening" problem than someone introducing malware.

However, every one of those worms were going after something that had been patched six months OR MORE earlier. I think the distributors learned something from that, and you see the result in the automated (or at least semi-automated) errata services we have today.

Thing is Bill, we are a research facility. (Oh, am I ever so happy we don't have to put up with marketeers and sales-weasels). We do have our systems occasionally go out for presentations-demos-etc., and even though they've been under control of our people at all times, the first thing that happens to those boxes when they come back in is a wipe and install. And that happens even if the box had only been taken to another division, or to corporate. Paranoid? Maybe.
