FC4 is easy to install and it's easily configured. You shouldn't have a big problem learning how to use it as long as you keep in mind that Linux is not Windows, it's a different environment. Also the other thing that you have to keep in mind is that there is no one Linux environment in the way that there is on Windows, Linux offers lot's of choices for everything which is both a blessing and a curse. Fedora Core comes with both Gnome and KDE, which are the two heavyweight desktop environments. It also comes with a number of lightweight window managers. You can install them all if you want and give them each a try and then pick the one that you are happiest with.

As for applications for e-mail use Evolution, which is installed by default, and will feel completely familiar to you if you have been using Outlook. Firefox is the same as it is on Windows. Open Office 2.0 does a nice job on all of the main Office tasks, you won't have any problems with it.

One more thing, after you do an install make sure that you update the system. The version of FC that's on the install disks is the first release, it's buggy and missing the latest versions of most everything. There is a simple update mechanism which will bring you up to the current rev.
