Cannot login linux

Hi all, I have a White Box Linux version 3 installed in my server box for doing some network throughput measurement experiments. In order to do the experiment, the server has a public IP that can be accessible by public. A few days ago, a problem occurs suddenly when I try to reboot the server. Originally, the initial run level is 5, that is it will directly start the

However, after the server was reboot, the boot-up stop at the console 's the system looked hanged just after I pressed "enter" key. I have tried to use rescue disk to look for the system file and everythings seem normal.

On the other hand, I also try to login through ssh or telnet but they all fail. After I enter the pbuttword and pressed "enter", they also looked hanged and the situation is similar to above case.

Actually, I don't make much attention in security setting because the server is only expected to run for a few months. I suspect that it may be caused by some hacking because I see a lot of strange ssh login in the system log.

Anyway, I really cannot think of any way to fix it but some of the experiment data is kept inside it ! So I have to login to get the data out. Does anyone know what is the possible error on the system and how can I fix it !
