Configuring running X to work with an external projectorMadhusudan Singh Ans #1. Yes, usually. After Modifying .bashrc.bash_profile Why did you say "what"? I ask for your objectives in order that I might judge if "logging in again" achieves them or not, and if it is the... Ans #2. It all depends on the projector. I travel to different clbuttrooms around the country, and most of the time the projectors I encounter will handle the same settings my LCD screen uses. I have occasionally run into projectors that will not, and I have to switch from 1024x768 to 800x600. (Fortunately the slides I use, acrobat files, look the same full-screen in either case.) I ran into one projector that would display okay until it overheated amd go dark. In that clbuttroom, the proprietor brought in another of the same brand, and I'd have to switch projectors every couple of hours. When selecting monitors on your laptop, you might try one of the VESA settings, to see if your laptop will accomodate them. Several years ago, I had a laptop that I had to set up with different XF86Config files for LCD and some projector, and it was either-or, not both at the same time. I don't think that Windows necessarily does any better, although the scan rates of a particular Windows driver may be more acceptable to a particular projector. -- Dave Brown
