(Okay, this one's been in my "reply to this sometime" queue for a week now .... )

I was startled to find TSO in your list (it's the only one of your examples with which I have much experience, though I've used VMS as well), since I'd have said it lacks a lot of things I've come to rely on in Unix shells, but .... Maybe so, with the addition of its scripting language(s) -- the only one I used was CLISTs, but there's something called REXX as well, it seems.

Hm .... Is this different in some important and interesting way like it might be (the stuff about state variables), but I'm not quite getting it.

In fact someone may have done so -- the Wikipedia article on WPS, which I just skimmed, references something called DFM (Desktop FIle Manager) .... :

Possibly worthwhile for us non-OS-2 people for getting a sense of what WPS is like?

Does it? but so many of those old-time tools (ls and ps come to mind) seem to have a truly bewildering number of options. ?
