Creating & tracking invoices for productsGreetings. Final Theory Of Everything V5.0 It is possible to use martingale probability theory to beat some games of chance. In a fair game... I work for a small non-profit organization, part of whose activity includes publishing literature and audio-video discs, and selling them direct to bookstores and to the public via mail-order. Vim on really old Laptop Slackware 2591 As you have discovered, using floppies and installing an extremely old version of Slackware is not going to work. I buttume your laptop does have a serial... Until now we've been writing invoices and receipts by hand, and haven't had any formal system to track invoices to ensure they're paid. We're therefore looking for some free GNU-Linux software that can help us create and track sales invoices for our products. It doesn't need too many bells or whistles; in fact, the interface should be fairly simple because we have a lot of volunteers working here who aren't too computer-literate. I had a look at some applications in the "Point-Of-Sale" category in unsuitable for any or all of the following reasons: rand vs. random 2592 Amadeus W. M. For any serious statistical work and-or large series Monte Carlo experiments you may want to abandon... * in alpha development stage * no localization support (we're in the UK, whereas a lot of programs are stupidly hard-coded for US$ and American addresses) * specific to service providers rather than product providers Vim on really old Laptop Slackware 2590 Unfortunately much of this is babbling-- ie many words with very little data. What does your laptop have on it? Does it have a network card... Can anyone recommend a package suitable for our purposes? Here's a list of some packages I've been looking at, along with some comments. ----------------------------------------------- Advantages: * Web interface via Apache, PHP, and PostgreSQL. Disadvantages: * Does way more than we need, so the interface is a bit complicated. * Very little documentation. * I've been having a lot of installation problems; software seems very buggy. -------------------------------------------- Completely unsuitable as the localization to the US is hard-coded. I checked on the community support forums, and apparently even something as simple as changing the currency involves non-trivial coding. Too bad, because it looks like the software could have been very useful for us. ------------------------------------ This was attractive as it claimed to be easy to configure and use. However, it requires Oracle 10g, which the installation instructions claim requires 6 GB of space. In order to even try this out we'd have to buy a new hard drive. I'm happy to do this if anyone thinks it's worth it. ----------------------------------- This appears to be geared towards service providers; the screenshots and documentation imply that there's no support for products. ----------------------------- Haven't had a chance to check this one out yet, as their website is currently down. --------------------------- Completely service-based; no support for products.
