Licensing question public domain to GPL
IANAL, but I believe that under US copyright law that probably isn't true. Under copyright law, "public...

Yes it will. It will go to the host of the eejit that misconfigures his software to ignore Reply-To headers, or to the host of the spammer who lookups than for any other valid MX record. Oh wait, didn't I already say that?

In the part that you snipped, I pointed out that the result of sending mail to please.do-not-spam.me.uk might not be what the sender intended.

If what you mean is that the MX record for do-not-spam-me.uk is as valid as the MX record for please.do-not-spam.me.uk then you are right. If you are trying to infer that the MX record for please.do-not-spam.me.uk is in some way less correct than that for do-not-spam.me.uk then you are wrong.

By the way, could you tell me how many more DNS lookups your machine performed for please.do-not-spam.me.uk than for do-not-spam.me.uk ? After all, your follow-up is to my statement that:

"Mail to please.do-not-spam.me.uk will generate no more DNS traffic than mail to any other host that has a valid MX record."

You have demonstrated that there are valid DNS records for both addresses. Had they not have been valid, then nslookup would not have served them. Therefore, your follow-up must have been to contest my point about the relative number of DNS lookups. -- Robert HULL If it's there and you can see it - it's real If it's there and you can't see it - it's transparent If it's not there and you can see it - it's virtual If it's not there and you can't see it - it's gone!
