DNS ppp0 glitch with lynx on tomsrtbt

Setting: tomsrtbt 2.0.103 (2.2.20 kernel) and lynx 2.8rel.2 browser.

Laptop drive crashed and I've been playing with tomsrtbt floppy on it in the interim. I've been able to get it connected to my household LAN eth0 and PPP dialup ppp0. So far, so good.

The eth0 name service isetc-hosts based; the ppp0 uses the nameservers at the ISP. I can ping-telnet nodes on both networks, and lynx browses a node on eth0 with a URL like

fine, but not on ppp0 using something like

which gives the notoriously uninformative lynx error

Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.

I can avoid this by manually subsbreastuting the DNS ppp0 resolution, like

but additional links in that page are similarly unavailable then. What's crazier to me is wget doesn't seem to have any DNS glitches on ppp0 like lynx does.

From this and other messages it sounds as if you want maximum functionality, and to use it as a learning experience. It didn't see any answers...

I've tried all sorts of lynx noproxy settings that worked before, to no avail (AFAICT). Lynx just hates my ppp0 link for some obscure reason.

Snip... Thanks for the quick response (this isn't a barnburner, I know): route -n Kernel IP routing table...

The ifconfig and route listings seem OK, which is consistent with telnet and ping working on both eth0 and ppp0, usingetc-hosts and DNS.

Tips on adjusting the tomsrtbt DNS for this lynx ppp0 glitch welcome.
