DNS ppp0 glitch with lynx on tomsrtbtFIXED 4450Debian.. aptget issue. probably simple solution Trying to run apt-get update and then an upgrade.. getting the below results. From the looks of it the system is just skipping its checks. Im not very familiar with apt-get... In the Usenet newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc, in article i know about two years ago, their DNS was returning that 'sunsite.unc.edu' was a CNAME, and pointing to metalab.unc.edu. Now, doing a DNS lookup on all three names gives the same IP (at least 3 A records), and looking up the IP gives 'www.ibiblio.org'. That's true. A lot of people don;t realize how much "stuff" is on that site. This being static, I wonder if the resolver code is all there. Other than the builtin math processor, I can't remember much of a difference in the instruction sets between the 386 and 486. Same here - but then when I run a browser, I go further and first 'su -' into user "noone", who has his own home directory and virtually nothing else (and in fitting with the name, no privileges, and very limited access). I don't remember either way - as there was a minor version number increment (2.7 to 2.8), I suspect it could well have been an enhancement. We had a server here that used to have the errata lists archived, but as we're no longer a Red Hat house, that's gone. Don't feel bad - we had just finished our transition from RH3.0.3 to 4.2, and the back room testing of both 5.0 and 5.1 came up with a big REJECT. We finally did update to 5.2, because we thought 4.2 support was going to end shortly after 5.2 came out. It actually remained supported until a week or two after 6.2 came out. 'biltmore' was a solid release. Yeah - but look at all we "gained". AIM on Debian I have the latest stable Debian installed, 2.4.27-2-386. Mozilla 1.7.8. Attempting to install AIM. Following the instructions for AIM 1.5.286 for Debian 2.1 presents a problem immediately; it attempts to save... redhat-3.0.3 387 packages redhat-4.2 467 packages redhat-5.2 574 packages redhat-6.2 744 packages (+ 515 in powertools) redhat-7.2 1232 packages redhat-7.3 1440 packages Old guy
