DVD & kernel version

I have encountered the strange problem. I have garbage on the screen (square patches) when I play DVD which played good on older kernel.

I used RH9 with 2.4.26 kernel and Xine and movie DVD playback was ok. The media is not always the best quality, but it worked good. I have compiled both, kernel and Xine myself. LibDVDCSS is installed. DVD's are borrowed from the store.

When I installed FC4 with 2.6.11 kernel, the Xine started to show garbage with some DVD media.

I did some experiments, since the old RH9 is still installed, and shares one of the same parbreastions with FC4. Xine execuable compiled on RH9 has exactly the same problems as XIne executable compiled on FC4.

RH9 compiled executable still runs fine on RH9. The same situation is with MPlayer, with the difference that I was not able to compile it with new gcc in FC4.

The problem is not with all DVD media. It seems that there was more tollerance for not so good DVD media in older kernels ? Is there a solution, to make DVD reading as reliable or robust as with old kernel ?

Please advise.
