DVD for Archiving and BackupDVD-R doesn't have the shelflife needed for longterm archiving, so NO. (same for DVD+R, CD-R) However I- and I imagine lots of others- use DVD-R ( and-or DVD+R ) for backups and short-term archive. Maybe one in 100 discs has aproblem for me. the other 99 show no errors of any kind. And that's for 4 or 5 brands of media. No difference as far as I can see. I'd have to guess your hardware or software has the problems, since the two drives I use and the 4-5 brands of disks all are nearly flawless for me. Since there's likely two variables that are affecting you, I'd suggest varying one at a time: -change to different software and see what happens -change to different writer and see what happens before you do though you might want to make sure that your writer's buffer isn't emptying - this is a strealing process afterall. Make sure that you aren't using much IO or CPU during the write process and that you don't have unecessary processes running during the burns.
