I have tried to answer you objectively and fairly, i have agreed with you on many points.

Windows

Yea, we have to work on this.

I agree with almost all the things the poster mentions...I myself am a Linux user and Windows user, but I am realist - meaning I do not BASH...

Again, true

At the poster is frequently referencing windows as "better" a defence tof linux HAS to reference windows. This is not blaming windows.

I find this unlikely.

Only because you introduce Microsoft, if nobody came allong and said "MICROSOFT IS SO MUCH BETTER" it wouldn't get mentioned.

Shhh, if nero burning rom crashes, do you blame windows?

What are you trying to say here?

Please don't use the word "switcher-roo". Distros are generaly aimed at a certain audience, It may help to change distro. It's probly best to do some reaserch before installing.

Happens occasionally. READ THE MESSAGE NOT THE SENDER!

Happens all the time. How do you think you are helping by not acnowledging any problems that linux does have?

Most is incorrect. Some is accurite. Hardware utalisation is in most cases better than windows.

You will spend a while on this in some cases, but linux is an OS for people happy to do this, or look for hardware that is supported... One may wonder why we bother if linux is so crap... Something to think about...

Haven't had this problem. Someone else may comment.

It will only install that crap if you ask it to. apt-get install whatever will do it all for you with NO problems. a base linux install will fit on a 500MB Hdd, given that WinXP is almost 2Gb with NO apps installed i think that this is rather good.

And windows stores it's config as.... BINARY DATA!!! You don't get more cryptic than that!!! IF one reads the man pages the conf files are a lovely ellagant thing! They are my favourite thing about linux

Why don't you just "man rm" for example?? man being manual?

Command line is faster and more efficient than the mouse after the short time it takes to get used to it.

I was an exclusively windows user till 1 year ago, I now use a hybrid GUI-command line system and love the line but use the GUI for things that work better with gfx. The Windows interface now irritates me.

90% of aps have a good linux equivalent. those that don't can be run using winex in many cases.

Your destro will do this for you. You never have to see a RPM. apt-get install whatever works without flaw in debian.

This realy is very simple and the source comes with a README that gives the three short commands that one has to type in.

Download it. it's free.

The protocols are old therefore efiicient. The tecnology imlementing them is cutting edge. Linux is FAST. Don't know what you are doing wrong, post a detailed and unbiased description and people will help you.

I am not keen on this either.

Do Penguins mail back any defective products
JeffRelf I have bought about 3 computers from Dell; these were for friends. We ran Red Hat...

Just go for debian, For me its better than windows. It's lovely.

Yea, What are you "guru"s trying to do to linux growth on the desktop???? However RTFM, although it is a vulgar acronym is usualy relevant. May times have i asked a stupid question and been RTFMed at and then looked and the answer is a plain as day.

Read the man first, it saves everyone time.

Agreed, We are not better, just different. Guys, Get off your high bloody horse.

Linux is not perfect, neither is any OS, everyone, deal with it.

Less of the Troll calling please.

Agreed.

I have tryed to answer your points in a objective way. Linux is for people who like linux and what it stands for, I love it. If you don't there is no pressure to use it. I tried it, i loved it, if i hadn't i would have gone right back to windows.

What is not helping is all those people who are spoiling the ecpirience for noobies by bashins them when they ask reasonable questions. There is no need to get all irate when someone points out a bug either.

Hope this helps,

Rage
