change hard drive to IDE 3 using Promise 20276 controller
On Thursday 27 April 2006 23:24, Kooner stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes inalt.os.linux.mandrake...: More precisely, if every IDE channel has a master and a slave, and if...

An ide-mib (Management Information Base) patch for disk read-write counters and some useful-useless information is available here:

We use them for benchmarking flash drives.

--- catproc-ide-hda-driver --- ide-disk version 1.17 Read 477 Write 48 ------------------------------------

The test machine is an Athelon 2400 with two flash drives, running the AmdK7Via kernel.

hda: 32MB SLC (1,000,000 write cycles), 2MB-s transfer rate hdc: 2GB MLC (100,000 write cycles), 10MB-s transfer rate (-usr andopt mounted onhdc read only)

It took 3 seconds to setup the root file system with 408 read and 47 write requests, (24-9=15) seconds to boot to KDE desktop with (3218-129+444-408=2996) read requests, and (44-37=7) seconds to bring up firefox with (4102-3265+472-462=1684) read requests. There is no write after root fs setup on hda and no write to hdc at all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

hda hdc Time read write read write 0 276 16 21 0 Beg root fs init 3 408 47 129 0 End root fs init.

9 414 47 640 0 Beg KDE init 24 444 47 3218 0 End KDE init.

Mount a remote filesystem using SFTP
Here's the scenario (a very common one, I think): I have some code I am testing on...

37 462 47 3265 0 Beg firefox init 44 472 47 4102 0 End firefox init
