Snip... Obviously, I can't "prove" it's "for pay" but I darn well know it's very "helpful" to certain commercial monopolies to sabotage support for their compebreastors, any way possible. I'll note my...

I have bought about 3 computers from Dell; these were for friends. We ran Red Hat Linux 7.3 on the oldest one (a Dimension 200) for several years as a desktop machine when Windows 95 quit running. The only thing to watch out for, as far as I know, is to make sure the modem (if any) is not a brain-damaged WinModem.

Rick browsing and processor synch and All well and good, but how many of them actually work? been a changed. Maybe you should do some research before making an butt of...

I have owned only three machines at home. One was made by Touch Systems in 1996 and was delivered with Windows 95 in it. After I frustrated myself with that for a year and a half, I installed Red Hat Linux 5.0 in it and it worked with no trouble at all. I took that one out of service late last year (166MHz Pentium processor was too slow, and I do not really need three desktop machines).

My second machine I bought from VA Linux Systems in early 200. It was to RHL7.3, and RHL9 that it is currently running. The only version of Linux that did not work well on it was Fedora Core 2. It basically worked, but it would not recognize a plain Soundblaster (ISA) sound board, and I could not get CUPS to work as a print server for my network even though both features worked with all other distributions of Linux that I tried.

My current main machine is home made and runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3. No problems there other than getting MIDI files to play. It might be. I never had occasion to reject anything from Dell. Or anything else (other than Windows 95, of course).
