I really need to know
I won't lecture you on the anti-social nature of what you are contemplating... ;-) Here's another idea though, but how well it works depends entirely how your particular network is laid...

I saw a blurb last week saying that broadband penitration in the US has just recently pbutted the 50% mark. There are now slightly more people who have broadband Internet access than are using dialup access.

CKERP v.0.13.1 released
A new release, v.0.13.1, of CK-ERP, has been posted at SourceForge.Net, adapted for multiple middleware operation. Connectors for egroupware and phpbb are added...

Whatever, I'll tell you what I think is by *far* the best solution for dialup. Go to eBay and buy yourself a used USR Courier. It is arguably the *best* modem ever made.

A quick search on eBay for completed items shows they are selling for anything from $10 to $40, with most of them going for $15 to $20. And there are several currently for sale. Frankly, at that price if you get cheated twice, and have to buy three of them to find a good one, it's still a bargain!

If you get one that is so old it doesn't even have v.90, there is a binary available to flash it with the upgraded firmware. But by now I'd expect most of them do have v.90 already.

Note that buying one without a power supply is not bad either. They have a switching power supply and can use anything from 9 volts to 24 volts, at least. Most of them come with either an 18 or 20 volt supply, but for example I've been running mine for years on 9 volts.

I've got the flash upgrade here somewhere, and have specific details on power supplies too, if you buy one and need help.
