No problem :) Some people consider running a laptop on the mains all the time as treating their batteries nicely. It really isn't. In fact, I think it may be the cause of these battery fires we've seen dotted around the place. My advice: if you have a functional battery in your laptop, use it! The things aren't cheap and have a designed service life of 3 years or 300 charges*, whichever occurs first. Reconditioning is not something that's added into the user manuals for laptops-batteries but should be, as this method can and does extend the service life.

I really need some help here udevhotplugusbusbmount etc etc
I am TRYING as previously posted to get a camera to work via USB etc so that I can see it. Now before I tried to get...

*theaverageservice life of a laptop battery is a scant six months. Rechargeable dry-cell batteries develop a memory effect, by which the maximum charge they hold is reduced by repeated and-or continuous overcharging until it gets to the point where they're practically useless. Reconditioning cansometimessave them; there are no guarantees. Overcharging also causes overheating of the cells and sometimes fires, as the protections built into the battery packs do not, unfortunately, include thermal fuses.

As a point of interest, I use Dell Labreastude-Inspiron PP01 chbuttis laptops almost exclusively, for the simple reason that the batteries are identical for them. What this means for me is that of the four computers in this range that I do own, I can bring out all six high-capacity batteries and enjoy uptimes from 20 to 90 hours depending on whether I bring out the PII-400, the PIII-700, or either of the P4-2.0's. Sometimes I'm near a power outlet, but I tend not to use it until-unless the batteries are dead. -- When all else fails... Use a hammer.

Some people are like Slinkies; They serve no particular purpose, But they bring a smile to your face When you push them down the stairs.
