Much. Thanks.

Interesting.

You will need a serial or network console (i.e., another cpu on another machine - obviously...

Here are some of the prior messages (with my comments in the parenthesis):

(Btw. - is there a way to access these messages (in an incomplete boot) other than to write them down on a piece of paper and then type them in ? I do not think thatvar-log-messages gets these messages.)

speedstep-centrino: couldn't enable Enhanced SpeedStep

(I do not know why this does not work (side issue - please ignore for now) :

Antivirus for FC3 4929
Neil T. Dantam Well, I often get port scans done on my machine. And so many pings I just stopped...

Funny thing is that it has worked in the past with Debian stock kernels.

CONFIGCPUFREQ=y CONFIGCPUFREQTABLE=y CONFIGCPUFREQSTAT=y CONFIGCPUFREQDEFAULTGOVUSERSPACE=y CONFIGCPUFREQGOVPERFORMANCE=y CONFIGCPUFREQGOVPOWERSAVE=y CONFIGCPUFREQGOVUSERSPACE=y CONFIGCPUFREQGOVCONSERVATIVE=y CONFIGX86ACPICPUFREQ=y CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPCENTRINO=y CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPCENTRINOACPI=y CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPCENTRINOTABLE=y CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPICH=y CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPSMI=y CONFIGX86P4CLOCKMOD=m CONFIGX86SPEEDSTEPLIB=y )

acpi-cpufreq: CPU0 - ACPI peformance management activated. Using IPI Shortcut mode Suspend2 Core. Suspend2 Compression Driver loading. Suspend2 Encryption Driver loading. Suspend2 Swap Writer loading. ACPI wakeup devices: P0P1 CBC0 MODM ACPI: (supports S0 S1 S3 S4 S5) RAMDISK: cramfs filesystem found at block 0 RAMDISK: Loading 1000 KiB 1 disk into ram disk... done.

(This concerns me - I have no CRAMFS support in the kernel :

# CONFIGCRAMFS is not set ) UDF-fs: No parbreastion found(1)

(Very odd, in normal bootups, I usually have an EXT3fs related message here).

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root-fs on unknown-block(3,9)

Point taken.

Thanks :)

Kernel 2.6.13 and FC4
I am trying to build the new kernel for my FC4 box (kernel 2.6.11-1.1368 plus 1FC4) , and I configed it and built it just fine. I never had an initrd for it...

Hmm. You think it is attempting to locate UDF-fs (a DVD filesystem IIRC) from my empty CD-DVD drive ?

So, do I create a bootable Debian CD with this kernel image ? Getting way too complicated for me :(

Dead certain. This is the 5th 2.6.x kernel I have compiled with IDE disks on this laptop.

Consider :

nanak:~# uname -a Linux nanak 2.6.12.5-rj #1 SMP Sat Aug 20 22:36:46 EDT 2005 i686 GNU-Linux nanak:~# mountdev-hda9 on type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro,commit=600)dev-hda1 onboot type ext3 (rw,noatime,commit=600)dev-hda6 ontmp type ext3 (rw,noatime,commit=600)dev-hda7 onvar type ext3 (rw,noatime,commit=600)dev-hda8 onusr-local type ext3 (rw,noatime,commit=600)dev-hda10 onhome type ext3 (rw,noatime,commit=600) proc onproc type proc (rw) sysfs onsys type sysfs (rw) devpts ondev-pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620) tmpfs ondev-shm type tmpfs (rw) usbfs onproc-bus-usb type usbfs (rw) tmpfs ondev type tmpfs (rw,size=10M,mode=0755) none onproc-sys-fs-binfmtmisc type binfmtmisc (rw)

All hda*'s.

Touche :)
