Family Fails The Linux Test BADLYOn Wed, 25 May 2005 12:22:10 -0700, Robert Strunk Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2796 Robert & al: some critic would be valid (plugins etc...), unfortunately the rest of the text may discredit what is valid... Can I make an observation, one Linux neophite to another? You obviously didn't do your homework. What you call complete failure, others view as testiment to Linux ideology. Linux is SHOCKINGLY flexible and robust. It is so customizable that properly configured, it can be anything to anyone unlike Windows and OS X's "take it or leave it" vision. The marriage of Windows' ease of use and Linux' power and flexibility is the holy graile of distro developers. Until that magic formula is found, best to error on the side of power and flexibility than dumb it down so the likes of me don't pull their hair out while struggling up the learning curve. With the exception of the buddy icon issue which I have not cared to research, I have muddled my way through all those issues and found acceptable solutions to all of them. You really should have spent a little more time researching your family needs before labotomizing your home network. That was plain silly. I am no Linux cheerleader. It just affords me the opportunity to learn the governing principles inherent to ALL operating systems. I am finding as my knowledge of Linux grows so does my understanding of what is happening beneath Windows' polished facade. As it stands today, Linux is a no-nonsense alternative for technology experts and enthusiasts. For those wanting more handholding, Microsoft and Apple have made it their business to be there for you. Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2797 Robert Strunk Is it my imagination, or are you posting to the exact same NG's as so many Hmm... my worst nightmares usually involve someone trying to kill me or someone...
