Filesystem turns 'readonly' for no reason
Dear list, This problem has bothered me from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 and I never did figure out the reason. A filesystem would suddenly go...

Hi,

I installed Fedora Core 3 from a DVD that came with Linux User (magazine), and I note a few difficulties.

1. The apache (httpd) documentation: the README file claims that the documentation is in a directory called docs-manual, but there is no such directory anywhere in the system. Q: Why?

2. I found some documentation undervar-www-manual, but there are several problems. Q: Refer below.

3. When I run any of these commands as root httpd -v httpd -V httpd --help I get no output on the terminal. However, after I ran httpd --help, a ps -ef grep 'http' gave me lots of processes with the command line content of httpd --help, one owned by root, the rest owned by user apache. Q: The man page says I should get version information. What are the things I should check for?

4. I chose a Workstation install, then went into the customise procedure and added mysql. However, that didn't give me the server - it only gave me the client. I've installed the server rpm manually, but ... Q: why did it not give me the mysql server?

For point 2 (apache documetation) the problems are: a. If I use firefox to browse the file directory structure undervar-www-manual-index.html, I get some gibberish, because the html file looks like the contents of a typical *.var file.

b. If I then browse index.html.en, it makes good sense, but when I click a link, it gives me gibberish because the link goes to a *.var like file. If I click on one of the language links (ie "en") it gives me a file not found error because the en subdirectory does not exist.

good "You Are Here" type page, with a note to the web administrator to add content undervar-www-html, but you can't get access to thevar-www-manual directory, unless I add a symlink in thevar-www-html directory.

d. Once I add the symlink, the same problems as noted in (a) and (b) above persist.

I may be missing something here, but I am a little disappointed that there are such basic errors in the installation.
