Fedora Core 4 wont installJust for the record and future reference: No, one does not need an installed OS to install from hard drive. I have installed virgin systems off the hard drive numerously. procedure: 1. copy the four CD images (*.iso) to a formatted parbreastion. Preferrably, one that's not essential to the install -- i usually use something OTHER thanusr, home, tmp, etc. Anaconda won't let you "edit" a parbreastion that contains the installer images. You can use a single dvd *.iso as well. You can copy to the root directory of the parbreastion. 2. Boot from the FC4 installer CD. I think you can use the rescue CD as well, except you need to type "linux install" with the latter, or some such. 3. After a few dialogues you will be asked what type of media contains your installer files. Select hard drive. You will be promted to select a parbreastion. If your images are not in the root directory, you may need to specify where they are ... although specifying this has been a bit quirky and counterintuitive for me, but i eventually succeed. (I think, recently, i once left the directory box blank, and my images were found, even though they were in a subdirectory) Manual Fix 4871 S. Baiz Jr." You'll probably have to turn off the system unit and reboot with a rescue disk and run fsck manually, probablly... Voila! That should launch the installation. This has worked for older versions of Fedora and RedHat. andrew
